The children at Tansley Primary School Gardening Club have become the latest new food producers on DE4 Food Co-operative which operates from Tansley Community Hall each week.

The children in   Gardening Club have had a busy year tending to a large range of vegetables and flowering plants in the school grounds.

"We have been learning about growing and harvesting different vegetables. Our radishes were huge! We have grown lots of potatoes this year as we received some free seed potatoes from Transition Chesterfields Potato Day. This week we dug up our potatoes and weighed them ready for sale. We grew 11 kg of potatoes and they look perfect!  We are just waiting for our strawberries to ripen.  If we raise enough money selling our produce then we would like to buy some more compost and seed trays so we can have fun growing fruit and vegetables next year".  Miss Holmes Headteacher.

Anyone wishing to support the school gardening club and taste their produce can buy the school-grown potatoes through www.de4food.org.uk

The potatoes are all Heritage Varieties.  There are  9kg of Red Duke of York and 2kg of King Edwards

The children weighed them out into 1kg bags and are selling them for £2 per kg.

There are lots more vegetables growing in the school grounds so look out for more produce from these green fingered children over the next two weeks.

Orders are to be picked up next Thursday 18th July from Tansley Community Hall between 3pm and 6pm

If any one else has any surplus fruit or vegetables from their veg patch they would like to sell on DE4Food please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
